Pharmacy Benefits Information

IMPORTANT NOTE:  All PAI members need to go through this Web site for accurate preferred drug information.

Pharmacy Benefits

PAI administers pharmacy benefits utilizing its preferred pharmacy benefit manager, CVS Caremark. CVS Caremark is the nation's premier integrated pharmacy services provider, combining one of the nation's leading pharmaceutical services companies with the country's largest pharmacy chain. The company fills or manages more than one billion prescriptions per year, more than any other pharmacy services provider.

CVS Caremark's pharmacy networks feature deep discounts from average wholesale prices. Plans can be structured with tiered co-payments to encourage use of generic and preferred drugs, or mail order where possible. When group members show their ID cards at participating pharmacies, they don't have to file claims or wait for reimbursement.

PAI also administers pharmacy benefits using other pharmacy benefit managers including BenescriptPremier Pharmacy Plan, Express Scripts, and Partners Rx.

NOTE: Not all benefit plans are the same. If you want to use a national chain pharmacy, please know that your benefit may restrict the pharmacy that you use. You should always check with your pharmacy to see if it is part of our network before you have your prescriptions filled.

Specialty Pharmacy

CuraScript Specialty Pharmacy dispenses and manages the oral and self-administered specialty drug portion of the prescription drug benefit. CuraScript is an independent company that provides specialty pharmacy services. CuraScript offers members the following benefits:

Members with Retail Lockout: To have oral and self-administered specialty drugs covered under their pharmacy benefit, members of these plans must use CuraScript to fill their prescriptions. Any drug listed on the specialty drug list must be filled by CuraScript for the charges to be covered under your pharmacy benefit.

Members with No Retail Lockout can continue to fill their specialty drug prescriptions at any in-network retail pharmacy such as CVS or Walmart OR CuraScript Specialty Pharmacy. However, note that any prescriptions filled at Caremark Specialty Pharmacy will no longer be covered.

If you have any questions about specialty pharmacy or your prescription drug benefits, please contact your Benefits or Human Resources Department or call the telephone number on your ID card.
